Fredericksburg Headstart & Virginia Preschool Initiative:

We are seeking funding for our highly successful and research-based Headstart Yoga & Mindfulness Program implemented in local Fredericksburg Area Schools. Our program provides over 120 students with lifelong tools that utilize movement and focus that help in academic, social/emotional, and whole-life learning settings.  Sharing mindfulness and yoga practices with children provides students with lifetime coping and resiliency skills that help set-them up for better health outcomes. Studies show that yoga and mindfulness are more effective at helping ease anxiety, counter violence/trauma, and assist learners with positive decision making.  This program sets kids up for positive, lifetime health and wellness outcomes. Short, weekly evidence-based yoga and mindfulness practices in the classroom give students needed tools to be successful. Our program teaches breath, movement, and mind awareness.   Students learn how to study their choices and how to use their bodies and focus for positive optimization. The program energizes students and creates calm, strong, focused, connected, and more sensory-aware learners.  This set’s up greater academic resiliency and grit to better acquire language, developmental milestones, and cognitive skills. With our program, students have more tools to self-regulate emotions, learn body awareness, and focus the mind on learning.

We are seeking funds to sustain this program further as well as offer it to more schools and counties in need including Spotsylvania, Stafford and King George. With your help, we can continue to share this beneficial program that bequeaths young children tools to last a lifetime!

Testimonial from the Headstart Director Laura Dove:

We serve at risk and underserved 3 and 4 year old’s offering yoga and
mindfulness to those who otherwise might not have access to these types
of classes. Our students respond so well to it and it helps to counter
the pressures they may already be feeling at such a young age. It
encourages self-esteem and body awareness and improves their sense of
calmness and concentration. The breathing techniques are a skill that
our students use throughout their day when learning to manage their
feelings. This program has been a valuable asset to our program and we
look forward to its continuation.   -Laura Dove

The current program at the Fredericksburg location costs a total of $11,000 annually. If you feel moved to support this program and would like more detailed information please contact Catie Nawrocki at catien@yogafoundationfxbg.org

Mindfulness for Educators

Mindfulness for Educators is  a 5-hour local retreat designed for school teachers that gives them an opportunity to enjoy and experience the benefits of yoga while gaining invaluable mindful stress management skills to use in and out of the classroom. Educators will enjoy an easeful and peaceful yoga class centered around restorative self-care taught by Catie Nawrocki, followed by an informational workshop led by John McLaughlin and Christine Garman. The retreat will be complete with lunch and pampering by our local sponsors. This is our way of saying THANK YOU to our local educators and recognizing the care and support that they need and so deeply deserve! The tools that the teachers gain can be translated to children of any age, creating a more mindful and peaceful learning environment for all.

For every $150 raised, one local school teacher is sponsored to attend a Mindfulness for Educators Retreat. Each teacher is estimated to directly serve an average of 25+ students annually. Our goal is to reach all 60,000+ children in our local area by better equipping and serving their amazing and devoted teachers. Sponsor and support our local educators today!
